Kimberley Trip 2023

My father and I arrived in hot and sunny Cable Beach after a 7 day journey from Melbourne. We had travelled over 5,000kms, crossing 3 state/territory borders and transversed the rolling hills of Adelaide, through the dry and arid outback, into the spectacularly red landscapes of the Kimberley region.

Day 1 - Melbourne (VIC) to Port Augusta (SA)
Day 2 - Port Augusta (SA) to Marryat Creek Rest Area (SA)
Day 3 - Marryat Creek Rest Area (SA) to Tennant Creek (NT)
Day 4 - Tennant Creek (NT) to Victoria River (NT)
Day 5 - Victoria River (NT) to Lake Argyle (WA)
Day 6 - Lake Argyle (WA) to RAAF Boab Quarry (WA)
Day 7 - RAAF Boab Quarry to Cable Beach (WA)
The trip didn't go to plan, as we had intended to conquer the 1,000km long Tanami Track from Alice Springs (NT) to Halls Creek (WA). When we arrived at the start of the Tanami Track, we were confronted by a sign advising that the track was closed between the Granites and WA Border (bugger).

As a result, we had to continue traveling up the Stuart Highway to Katherine and cut across the Victoria Highway into the Kimberley region - adding an extra 1,000kms to our trip - albeit along a comfortable highway as opposed to the corrugated Tanami Track.
